Holywell Dene

An ancient semi-natural woodland with a small fresh water stream that stretches from the small village of Holywell to Hartley on the coast. A Local Nature Reserve since 2003; Holywell Dene is home to Kingfishers, Dippers, Grey Wagtails and a good selection of woodland birds.

Holywell Dene can be easily accessed from Holywell Pond not far from the public hide. There are some well-maintained footpaths which help visitors to explore and enjoy the local wildlife.

The site is a favourite for Great spotted Woodpeckers, Treecreepers and a good variety of warblers during the summer months. A walk through Holywell Dene can be very relaxing and the site is well worth a visit whichever the season. There are nearby cycle paths, which allow visitors to easily explore the surrounding area.
